It’s very common for acupuncturists to pay to have their practices listed in various online directories. Just like traditional yellow pages, these directories are a GREAT way to reach prospective patients who are actively looking for an acupuncturist.
The “problem” with such directories is – that it’s possible that prospective patients may not KNOW that acupuncture is an option (sometimes the BEST option) for what ails them!
The best way to illustrate this is step outside yourself and take a look at the process from your patient’s perspective.
Sally is a thirty-five year old woman who has been married for six years and desperately wants to start a family. She’s been referred to various “specialists” and has spent tens of thousands of dollars on “traditional” fertility treatments.
If you’re lucky, Sally will pick up her favorite woman’s magazine where she reads an article which describes one woman’s struggle with infertility and how acupuncture helped her conceive when all other methods had failed. At that point, Sally will head to one of the many online directories (or the yellow pages) to find an acupuncturist close to her.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY!
That’s the way directories and yellow pages work. Once Sally decides she needs an acupuncturist, an online directory or yellow page listing is a GREAT tool to help Sally discover your practice.
However, what do you do when there is no “press” coverage of the benefits of acupuncture?
There are still women who are struggling with infertility – probably several within a few miles of your practice. There are probably dozens more who would drive an hour or more for regular treatments – if only they knew:
- that acupuncture is a proven treatment for infertility
- that you offer just such services.
What you need is a way to get your message in front of prospective patients BEFORE they head to the directories and yellow pages. Heck, if you catch them early enough in the process, they won’t make it to searching the directories or yellow pages for acupuncturists.
In a recent WebMD poll, 85% of poll respondents said they were very open to treating their symptoms using alternative medicine.
What’s your specialty? Headache pain? Back Pain? Infertility? Digestion?
If prospective patients knew what you knew – they’d be heading directly to the directories to search for an acupuncturists for virtually EVERY health problem.
Unfortunately, most people don’t know what you know. If they did, they’d be coming to you.
